A BRIEF HISTORY

Lymington Netball Club was formed in December 2001 following a 10-week coaching course set up by the Active Sport Netball Partnership Officer at HCC in conjunction with the New Forest District Council Sports Development Officer. The course attracted around 16 girls between the ages of 11 and 14 at Lymington Health & Leisure. At the end of this course a meeting for parents was organised to see if there was enough interest to form a Club. The girls themselves were very keen for this to happen and so were the parents who attended. A small Committee was formed, a constitution was set up, a grant application submitted and some basic kit and equipment acquired. A team was formed, which included one of our coaches, Mia, and at their first attempt, they won the Southampton League title, followed by a runners-up spot in the second year. Tournament victories included 2 Hampshire Youth Games titles, the Southampton League tournament and an Active Sports Tournament at Andover.

During the past 5 years more Lymington teams have been competing in the Southampton League, with mixed success, and also the East Dorset Junior Summer League in Bournemouth. Lymington juniors have been successful in representing the New Forest at the Hampshire Youth Games and also the Mid-Hants Partnership Acadamies. Huge thanks go to Priya Samuel, Netball Development Officer at HCC, past and present Sports Development Officers at NFDC and all parents and others who have helped the Club reach where it is.
